Anne B. Solem has primary management responsibility for several of the agency's client practice areas including the agency's commercial public relations practice, crisis management practice and healthcare practice.
Anne specializes in developing and implementing communications strategies and programs for the agency's clients. Recent clients include Lucasfilm Ltd., Washington Hospital Healthcare System, UBS Warburg, the Institute on Aging (formerly known as the Goldman Institute on Aging), Catellus Development Corporation and the California Home Performance with Energy Star Program, among others.
In 1980, Anne took a leave-of-absence from the agency to accept an appointment as Regional Representative for the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. In that post, she represented the Secretary of Transportation in all federal matters in Region IX, which then included California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii and the Pacific Trust Territories.
Prior to the formation of Solem & Associates, Anne worked as a political consultant and journalist. She directed Northern California press and scheduling activities for several national and statewide political campaigns, including the 1972 and 1976 Democratic presidential campaigns and the 1974 U.S. Senate campaign. In 1970-71, Anne served as press secretary for the California Democratic Party. She began her career in 1960 as a writer for Associated Press in New York City and, in subsequent years, worked as a reporter in the Bay Area. A native of Berkeley, she is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Californian. Anne also is active in community service and currently is a member of the Mill Valley City Council. In 2002, she served as the city's Mayor.
Previously, Anne was president of the Mill Valley Public Library Board of Directors and president of the Board of Directors of The Redwoods, a residential facility for seniors. From 1994 to 1998, she chaired the Mill Valley Library Building Committee, which managed the design and construction of a new wing to the city's library. |
